1.
Walking on Saint Clarens The flowers knock me out Worries lift and fall apart I feel them catch the breeze and flutter The Monarch flies so high And then so close The birth of fashion Between her wings I suddenly adjust My point of view A sign Catches my eye In strokes of pencil colour “We’re all in this together” I trust you
2.
Let’s Watch TV I get the water You get the chips We like to slow down And watch them grow We sing along To the theme song It’s beautiful There is a comfort in this home It reminds us of many things Many places we have been Let’s Watch TV Giddyap Giddyap Let’s Watch TV
3.
A light wind Brushes the window As I put away the dishes A pulse overhead Comes into focus I look up Every time There’s a plane in the sky Every time There’s a plane in the sky Look at that one It’s so big Look at that one How the trail extends How it must feel To be in one How it must feel To be in one Every time There’s a plane in the sky Look at that one Every time To be in one
4.
When my body Is feeling low I trace the steps On a video Of a Shaolin Monk In a Purple Garden And listen to “Protect Ya Neck” And watch the sweat Accumulate I was a dragon In my youth
5.
Fading out of light The trees Cast shadows The light Makes me weep So tender The leaves The branches The mulberries All must be so warm Must be so hot to touch Next door they talk The dog walks The dog walks towards the fence He notices much more than this song The dog could write A thousand love songs To this moment To this moment The baby screams next door The dog barks at the baby Someone screams at the dog The cycle neverending Fading out of light We’re fading out of light
6.
Slicing zucchini Salting the fish I’ll prepare the rice Clear the table Sweep the floor The steam rises The kitchen’s hot Let me grab you a soda pop We take our streets To eat our meals I take a bite And dance I cannot help it I cannot help but dance First with my shoulders Then with my arms I might get up I feel good I feel love in this meal I feel love In what you prepare In what you prepare
7.
Along the houses on our street The cats lined up One by One Stretched out One paw hanging off the ledge Gently purring A bug flies by A dog barks I don’t mind Forget it Something catches it eye Like dew rolling off a leaf Or the way light Has danced upon The rear-view mirror Of that purple car The cat unveils The inner heart God bless the speed bumps They keep our cats alive The heat returns The cats resume their position On the throne Of our humble home
8.
Too many books At the bedside table How will I find the time To turn each over? Each book Is a mood It depends On your point of view Too many books At the bedside table How will I choose “Songs of Love, Wind, Moon”
9.
Damn It’s hot tonight And the streets are quiet Cars rush by They fly Sirens in the distance Woo Woo I’m crying now I need your direction I need your direction Let me dream Poetry moves me to sing Nothing compares to what you bring To me You make me dream Will I be dreaming soon? Soon, soon Dum Dee Da Dum I wrote a song Or the idea of a song It doesn’t fit together…

about

"On Capturing The Evening Song"
by Ian Daniel Kehoe

teacher -

lesson teacher, very quiet city gallery
I am invited in & alone, listen, & listen…,

a spacious observation wavering in space -

the potential of urban existence to appear
by disappearing, transformed
touching,

almost touching

without touching, echoes
ephemeral hugeness, our meals, our tidying,
renewal -

a perfect substance
situated in space, a perfect object
